Saltwater to Skincare: How Real Soap Begins

Saltwater to Skincare: How Real Soap Begins

Sometimes the most beautiful skincare begins with something as humble — and extraordinary — as saltwater.

Most people look at a natural soap bar and think of oils, botanicals or a pretty swirl of colour.  But here’s the part we love — every bar begins with saltwater.

Modern sodium hydroxide (lye), the ingredient that turns plant oils into a solid bar, is created by running electricity through nothing more than salt and water. This process splits the salty brine into its elements and forms the lye that starts the entire soapmaking journey.

When that lye meets oils and butters, something beautiful happens. They react in a process called saponification — transforming into gentle, skin-loving soap and natural glycerin. And the best part? No lye remains in the finished bar. It does its work, then disappears completely.

How beautiful when natures meets science?

Our bars begin with the same foundations found along our coast: salt, water, minerals, botanicals and oils. Honest, minimal, and shaped by nature’s choices.

This is why we love creating solid rituals. They’re simple in the best possible way — pure ingredients, minimal processing, and a moment to slow down with something made from the basics of the earth.
